Matthew F. Mauro (August 22, 1939 to December 5, 2019)
Matthew F. Mauro peacefully passed away Thursday the 5th of December. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Janice (née Boyd), his twin brother, Martin and parents, Frank and Nora. He is survived by his sister, Angela Giannotti, daughter Christiane and sons André and Matthew Shane Mauro.
Matthew, a New York City event photographer, was renowned for capturing world leaders like Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama and a myriad of celebrities during his tenure at the United Nations and multiple Hotel and Club organizations. Notably, he was a Board Member and photographer for the Escoffier Society, Chef de Cuisine, the first photographer for the Princess Grace of Monaco Foundation, and the official photographer for the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Charities. His company, Manhattan Group Photographers, covered the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinners and the Cardinal Open for many years working along Cardinals Spellman, Cook, O'Connor, Egan and Dolan.
Born and raised in Corona, Queens, Matthew graduated St. John's University as a French Major and received a Masters' at the University of Illinois. He taught French at St. John's and along with his brother, Martin, founded the St. John's crew team which traveled internationally.
Encouraged by his wife Janice, Matthew developed his talent for photography into a lifelong profession. His dedication and passion for good cuisine, comradery and conversation were integral to his success.
He will be remembered as a man who loved his family and whose generosity and modest nature enabled others to shine.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, December 15, from 11am to 2pm at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, New York, NY.
Memorial Mass in honor of both Matthew and Janice will follow Monday, December 16, at 10am at The Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, 263 Mulberry Street, New York, NY.
