Obituary of Josephine DeCicco

Josephine DeCicco 1920-2021
Josie was the quintessential New Yorker. Born in 1920, she spent her entire life living in her beloved Greenwich Village neighborhood. Josie was part of the first class to graduate from St. Anthony Elementary school and went on to Washington Irving H.S.
Three months after graduation she received a job offer from Bergdorf Goodman to join her sister Mary as a seamstress at the luxury retail store on 5th Avenue. She spent the next 46 years working there becoming one of the most sought after seamstresses. She was given the most difficult alteration requests by Mr. Goodman for clients such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, her sister Lee Radziwill and Audrey Hepburn. During those years, Josie and her parents and sister Mary spent time traveling to Europe, took cruises and enjoyed time with her cousins in Long Branch, NJ.
Josie was an active member of Our Lady of Pompei Caring Community Senior Center where she volunteered for 36 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei Church her entire life. Every day, she could be seen walking along Bleecker Street, with her walker, and stopping to converse with neighbors and friends. She credited her longevity to her active lifestyle and not smoking. Josie believed that growing up and spending her entire life living in her beloved Greenwich Village was a blessing.
