Obituary of John Alusick

May 7, 2023

John Alusick passed on at only seventy-four, after a massive stroke and short hospitalization.

For more than sixteen years he taught math at A. Philip Randolph High School. His deep concern for his students’ academic growth led many of them to pursue higher education. This he took great pride in.

He was an expert par excellence in jazz and rock ’n roll.  Living in the Village since the mid-sixties, he was privileged to see many artists who moved and performed here before they reached fame, and he followed their lives and careers with great interest.  He enjoyed conversations about jazz musicians from the 40’s to the 60’s to the present days and listening to their CDs.

His departure left a deep void, and he is greatly missed by his fiancé, Ingeborg Reinecke, his adopted sons Louis and Ernest Csak, and his adopted five grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
