Obituary of Caitlin Sanders

December 21, 2022

Caitlin Elizabeth Sanders

May 22, 1991 - December 21, 2022

Caitlin Sanders, the daughter of Lamar and Veronica Sanders, was a lifetime Greenwich Village resident, although her travels were almost as extensive as her years on this earth.  She received an I.B. degree from the United Nations School in 2009 and graduated with a B.F.A. degree from New York University in 2013.  Caitlin loved to travel, having visited, or lived in twelve different countries on three different continents in the course of her short life. She had a passion for languages, specifically Spanish, in which she was fluent, and Russian, in which she was nearly fluent. To call her multi-talented doesn’t do justice to the range of her artistic versatility; her drawing talents were evident since childhood, and her acting ability was demonstrated in numerous award-winning student films as well as theatrical performances. At NYU she demonstrated an impressive proficiency in photography, writing, directing, and cinematography. After graduating from NYU in 2013, she moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she worked as a freelance photographer and illustrator. She moved back to New York in 2019.  Caitlin’s talents were prodigious, her love of life and adventure, enormous, and she will be missed by everyone she ever knew.

Caitlin was a wonderful co-worker of mine. She was a great graphic designer and it was always a pleasure seeing her in the office. May she rest in peace. Sending my condolences and prayers to her family.

Catilin, our paths crossed in 2013 when you moved to Buenos Aires. You were a wonderful friend and I will always hold dear the memories we made at that crappy apartment on Balcarce. My deepest condolences to your family.

Caitlin and I lived together in Buenos Aires and I will hold onto all the beautiful and happy memories we shared together in San Telmo in 2013. I will always remember Caitlin for her creative spirit and her warm heart. My thoughts and best wishes are with Caitlin’s family during this difficult time.

Dear Caitlin, I can’t believe I JUST saw you 3 Mondays ago - thank you for always taking time to say a warm “goodnight” when you walked by my desk at Gabriel & Co…I just can’t believe the last one meant goodbye. Today, myself and your team members were blessed to witness a room filled with your beautiful family and friends, who took us on a journey of your FULL life, memorializing all that you were and your soul continues to be. As we remember your kind spirit, amicable encounters, and bright eyes, may we hold on to those memories stronger than the grief that you’re gone. Praying for continued comfort and healing for your mom and dad - please send them a sign every now and then that their baby girl is doing alright <3 Oyin

Caitlin Sanders was a close friend. I first met her in a sober house. She had good advice on how to recover from addiction, from personal experience. Caitlin was well known in the rehab community. If she can recover from marijuana addiction, I think it is hope for other addicts.
