Obituary of Diane Cox

August 9, 2022

Diane Dow Cox passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2022 in New York City surrounded by loving members of her family. She was born on April 5, 1947 and spent her childhood in California and Connecticut, but throughout her adulthood was a devoted resident of Manhattan.  It was during her senior year of college that she met the love of her life, John Peterson Cox, with whom she married just a short time later and shared 43 years of her life with until his death in 2012. They had their first kiss just a few blocks from Stuyvesant Town where they would later live and raise their two children, Sarah Lauren Cox of Denver, Colorado, and Tyler Burton Cox of Ogden, Utah. Diane valued her work in Vocational Rehabilitation and spent most of her career with the State of New York.

She is also survived by her son in law, Thomas Murray Francis, and three granddaughters, Eliot Jane, Marnie, and Bodie Francis.

An online celebration of her life will be held in the coming months.  Details will be forthcoming.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Diane during my tenure at VESID in the Manhattan office. She was always gracious and lovely, a little shy, super smile! Wonderful counselor, very attuned to her constituency. It was a pleasure to have her acquaintance during those years. I am sorry to hear of her passing.
