Obituary of Marcelina Rosado
July 9, 2019
It is with the heaviest of hearts and most profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Marcelina Rosado on July 9,2019.
More commonly known as "Marcy" to her friends, she was born and raised in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico by her loving parents Arcadia "Doña Cayíta" and Andres Cabrera. As the eldest daughter of a family of five, the close bond to her siblings and dedication to her mother molded her life to become the compassionate and nurturing matriarch of her own family.
She was married for 54 years to her recently departed husband Fernando Rosado Jr., where the two resided in Chelsea, New York after living many years in Brooklyn where they met at sixteen and would eventually marry and raise their family.
For over three decades she dedicated herself to the education of young children in the inner city, where her insightfulness, kindness and professionalism garnished the respect and appreciation of so many of her colleagues and students alike. She believed wholeheartedly in the advancement of each person through education, sacrifice and a strong moral compass. She exemplified this through her own educational pursuits and devotion to her faith.
Marcy was an active church member of Our Lady of Guadalupe. As a member of the Cursillos de Cristiandad, she enjoyed taking part of the group's community service and regular visits to hospitals.
Her kind and gentle soul, infectious smile, laughter and warm embrace will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but most by her surviving three children, Elba, Fernando and Carlos, daughters-in-law Lisa and Janice, eight grandchildren; Samuel, Daniel, Kristian, Jordan, Marcus, Kayla, Avery and Emily, and great grand children Rose and Violet.
Please join her family in remembering her at The Greenwich Village Funeral Home on Monday, July 15, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
