Sergio Moschella was born in Genova, Italy on December 19, 1966, to Natale Moschella and Letteria (Lilly) Todaro. He was their first son, with sibling twins, Roberto (Roby) and Stefania (Stefy). Natale and Lilly were born in Messina, Sicily. Lilly and Natale met as young adults. Lilly’s family left to find work in Genova where she worked as a seamstress with the Italian Navy along with her sister. Sergio’s father was a baker and left Messina as well to find other opportunities throughout Italy. Their paths would cross again in Genova where they married after World War II.
Sergio grew up living in close proximity to his cousins and the church of San Tommaso. That forged his faith, love of family and his personality which was always so warm and welcoming. He spoke frequently of playing together with his cousins, sharing meals, his Mom and his aunts cooking: lasagna, pasta al forno, involtini, melanzane to name a few and his father’s pizza and focaccia. He also took frequent trips in his youth with his fellow parishioners to the Italian mountain side of Gressoney. As a young man Sergio studied classical dance, and his love of dance….. pushed him towards the gym where Sergio would find one of his most fulfilling passions bodybuilding. His pursued bodybuilding along with working as a barista and security for Italian VIP.
Always ambitious and wanting to achieve great things, he became a competitive bodybuilder throughout Italy, winning multiple national and European awards at the height of his career. Sergio moved to New York in 2006 with a dream of becoming an American citizen. He launched a successful career in security and hospitality for large well-known iconic New York restaurants like Carbone and protected some of New York’s most well-known and media hounded celebrities. He also worked at retail locations Armani, Faberge and Porsche Designs.
He went on to achieve his two greatest dreams in life when he married his longtime girlfriend Kristen Simat, a New York City lawyer from Lido Beach New York, and becoming an American citizen.
In his 20 years in the United States, he amassed an enormous circle of friends and colleagues, while maintaining close relationships with his friends and family from Italy, and also traveling with Kristen’s family to visit her father’s childhood home in Olib, Croatia.
Kristen and Sergio had a 20 year romance together and we’re married for over seven years.
Sergio is survived by Kristen, his brother Roby, his sister Stefy engaged to Pietro, as well as his twin nieces Raffaella engaged to Davide, Elizabetta, his nephew Luca engaged to Francesca, his brother in law Troy and his brother in law Gregg married to Janis, his nephews Christopher and Tanner and his nieces Kaitlyn and Mattia and many other loved ones who will miss him dearly and never forget him.
