Obituary of Andreas Nicolas Belli Marinos

September 20, 2021

Andreas Nicolas Belli Marinos was fearless - a brilliant, creative gift to all who knew him. His life is being celebrated in many languages and around the world. Andreas was boisterous and filled with life from the moment he came into this world, just four minutes after his big brother Paolo. Together, they shared a special bond that brought exceptional joy and purpose to their family.

As a young child, it was clear that Andreas was wildly creative, unfiltered, hilarious, loving and always on the go. As he grew, he built countless treasured friendships around the city. He was magnetic and honest, and everyone he met was drawn to him. Andreas listened closely, looked you in your eye, and was insatiably curious. He hit his stride at the Lab School for Collaborative Studies, where he attended middle and high school, and the Fashion Institute for Technology where he was a few credits shy of getting his BA in Design and Italian. He was happiest when he had a skateboard and camera in hand, riding with his skateboarding community downtown at Tompkins Square Park. He questioned absolutely everything and always stood up for what he believed to be right. He was a New Yorker through and through. Andreas would call this next part corny, but he loved his city and found beauty on every block. He was a gifted artist and craftsman, constantly refining his work and experimenting with new media - video, photography, graphic design, and fashion. Talented and curious beyond his years, he created SLUGS, a multimedia project which was a love letter to his friends. Andreas lived a meaningful, adventurous, and playfully rebellious life. He was adored by all, especially by his mother Josephine, his father George, his older sister Tania, and his twin Paolo. Knowing his journey, we are put to task to live as fully as he did, to think of him often, and to say *almost* exactly what's on our minds.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the following organizations which support causes that are near and dear to Andreas' huge heart:

● Harold Hunter Foundation: A community-based organization that provides support, opportunity, and advocacy for skateboarders in NYC and beyond so they can reach their full potential as skateboarders and as people. Donation link is here: https://www.haroldhunter.org/support.html
● The City Parks Foundation: Makes parks vibrant centers of community through sports, arts, community building, and environmental education programs for New Yorkers across all five boroughs. Andreas especially loved Tompkins Square Park. Donation link is here: https://cityparksfoundation.org/donate/
● Groundswell: Brings together artists, youth, and community organizations to use art as a tool for social change here in New York City. Donation link is here: https://www.groundswell.nyc/about/support

With great love and admiration,
Mom, Dad, Paolo, Tania

Andreas was a very dear friend to my daughter Eise and I had the pleasure of meeting him on many occasions. What a wonderful young man, so upbeat, kind, thoughtful, mannerly and so fun to be around. I had just met him recently and even though he was rushing he still stopped to give me a hug and say Hi! I am very grateful for that moment and will keep the memory in my heart always. Thank you for bringing him into the world.

We barely knew Andreas but believe his spunky spirit will live on. This has to be a crushing experience for your family. We are devastated for you. Hoping you will find strength in each other.

I would see the whole Belli-Marinos family at least once a year, usually through some celebratory family event. The last time I spoke with Andreas was at Aunt Nancy's 90th birthday just a few months ago. He was at his typical usual self being the bright eyed young man....just being himself. Andreas always kept our brief conversations with full attention. It was always pleasant. That is actually something I come to appreciate about Tania, Paolo and Andreas when they were kids, and now as young adults. The whole Belli-Marinos family had that way about them, having that touch of worldliness yet are very down to earth too. My heart goes out to Josie, George, Paolo and Tania. May Andreas rest in peace.

The world has lost a beautiful young man. He was loving, fun, intense, and had the most wonderful smile. Words cannot convey the sorrow and sympathy we feel for those who have to deal with this terrible loss. Our hearts ache for Josephine, George, Tania and Paolo and all their friends and family. I will always picture him smiling and fully engaged in life.

Dear Josephine and family,
I am soooo sorry to hear such devastating news. My heart goes out to you and your family. Although I met Andreas when he was a little boy, I feel like I know him after reading the beautiful tribute. What an amazing young man!
May God give you all strength to go on and live with the beautiful memories of Andreas.

Hello. You may or may not remember me. Andreas knew me as Ms. Zaccaria. I was his 4th grade teacher at Parkside. I remember Andreas so well. He lit up our classroom and brought so much joy to our day. I have nice memories seeing your family in church at the Cathedral, as I'm Greek as well. My heart breaks for your family. Andreas was a very, very special child. He inspired me to continue my career in education. May his memory be eternal.

I was very lucky to have had Andreas as a friend for our years at Parkside. We both loved art then, and I am sorry to learn we were both students at FIT and didn't know it. My heart goes out to all of you on your loss of your beautiful Andreas.

Dear Josephine, George, Tania, and Paolo,

I am deeply saddened by the news of Andreas' passing. Andreas was my classmate and friend throughout my years at Parkside, and it was a privilege to have known him. I am eternally grateful to have witnessed his kindness, intelligence, and good nature in action. I will always remember him as the boy wearing that yellow Marinos Italian Ices t-shirt, so earnest and genuine in his interests and his interest in others. He was a rare gem.

Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Thank you for sharing him with us at Parkside. Andreas was a gift from the moment he stepped through my door.

I only met Andreas a little over a month ago, on the first day of our Professional Preparations class at FIT, where I was his teacher.

Andreas made an immediate impression on me as a very bright, inquisitive and highly creative person who was also kind, generous and thoughtful. I'm very grateful that I was able to work with him, even for such a short time. My heart breaks for his friends and family.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Andreas. I was the Chair for the years when Andreas was a Communication Design AAS student. While we only met a few time to discuss his credits/courses and for me to provide support (and encouragement). Andreas was a warm, engaging and energetic individual. His charm and sincerity left a great and lasting impression on me. I am deeply saddened. Please accept this heartfelt condolence.
