Obituary of Sonia Feliciano
December 15, 2021
Sonia (Torres) Feliciano was born on February 24, 1938 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The first of five children born to Idalina Chamorro and Gregorio Torres, Sonia passed on December 15, 2021 at age 83 in New York City, surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren.
Sonia spent most of her life living in New York City. She moved to the metropolis as a teenager and met Arturo Feliciano, a fellow transplant from La Isla del Encanto. Over the course of 64 years until his passing in 2020 the two were inseparable. They married and brought to this world two daughters and raised five grandchildren. While Arturo served as a minister and pastor for various churches in the Bronx and Manhattan, Sonia served as a homemaker and mother to entire communities. She personified the essence of a caregiver, taking in adults and children to the home she created and raised these individuals as a part of her own family.
Those who knew Sonia knew her many loves included music, entertainment and a good telenovela. She was an avid reader and matched her husband's intellect and devotion in her study of scripture and her dedication to faith. On this earth, Sonia's greatest passion was for her family, which she cherished dearly. She was intimately involved in raising each of her descendants, providing them with unending love and support, and was eternally proud of them.
With her transition, Sonia has joined the love of her life, Arturo. She is survived by her daughters Evelyn, Sonia Ivette and son-in-law Joe; her grandchildren Eleni, Ali, Sophia, Amanda and Joel; great-granddaughter Stella; and her brothers Ricardo and Gregorio. She is preceded in death by her parents, Idalina and Gregorio; and her siblings Carlos and Zoraida.
On Tuesday, December 21st the family will celebrate Sonia's life followed by a private burial service at Calverton National Cemetery, where she will join her beloved husband.

My condolences to the family of such an extraordinary and caring lady! I share the feeling of your loss, but also the memories she left us. I'm greatful to have had the chance to watch the telenovelas con un cafecito with her. She always made me feel at home. She was caring and a believer..."ay Jenny, yo quiero que tu estes bien mija" she would say and she would bless me every time I said goodbye.
May she be full of joy as she is reunited with her beloved husband.
