Obituary of Bonita (Bonnie) Eggers

April 6, 2025

Bonita Margaret Eggers (Bonnie) passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 77. She was a shining light to all who knew her.

Born in New York City, Bonnie was the daughter of Stanley and Elsa (née Toro) Burns. Having lived throughout the country as a child, she moved with her family to Wisconsin where she pursued her post-secondary education earning an associate’s degree. Throughout her life, Bonnie found joy in music and all things artistic.

It was in Wisconsin that she would meet the love of her life, Bill. She and Bill were married for 55 years. They moved to Astoria , NY where their two boys, Troy and Neal, were born. Later, they lived in Suffern, NY. Bonnie spent years as a successful Realtor in the Northern New Jersey area, where she had clients who worked with her for decades. She held on to her love of music throughout her life and was given many opportunities to share her beautiful voice. She often told stories of singing with the Pro Arte Chorale, which gave her the opportunity to sing around the world. But it was the opportunity to sing with her husband and two sons that she recalled the most. In recent years, Bonnie loved being with her expanded family, most especially her grandchildren.

Bonnie was the quintessential hostess. She loved to be with people—all people. She found friends everywhere she went. She was known for her beautiful artistic style, for her beautiful hats, and for an unparalleled glamour, but it was her inner beauty that captivated everyone around her that her family and friends will miss the most.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, the Rev. William Eggers, her son Troy (Susan), her son Neal (Jennifer), her grandchildren Mary, Will, Olivia, Adelin, and Jack, and her brother Stanley (Janice). A celebration of her life will take place at the end of June.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bach Vespers, Music Kitchen, and the Gayle Lyn Kliever Student Fund, which helps fund scholarships to worthy Tanzanian students.
