Obituary of Joseph Grande
February 25, 2025
Joseph Peter Grande, b. 08/12/1934 passed away peacefully at New York Presbyterian Hospital in the early morning of February 25, 2025 from complications of kidney disease and pancreatic cancer. Joseph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Grande, his only son Joseph Grande Jr., daughter in-law, Christine Williamson, two grandchildren: Nicholas Peter Grande and Caroline Catherine Grande. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Nicholas and Vincenza Grande and sister, Lucille Setteducati.
Joseph grew up near Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Joseph joined the Army in the mid-1950s and was stationed at Ft. Hamilton. He graduated from Pace University and worked primarily at Goldman Sachs servicing the Partners’ accounts throughout his 50 year Wall Street career. Joseph and Patricia moved to Matawan, New Jersey in 1969 where they had their son Joseph Jr. and raised their family. During his years in New Jersey, Joseph was very active at The Community of St. Benedict in Holmdel serving as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Baptism team. In 2004, Joseph and Patricia moved to Manhattan to be closer to their son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren, where they have lived ever since. Until his illness which began in 2020 as did his dialysis treatments at The Rogosin Institute, Joseph had been very involved at The Church of St. Monica as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at the 12 noon daily Mass.
Joseph was adored by everyone he met, often providing big laughs or pearls of wisdom to those around him. In the past few years, he could often be spotted people-watching outside of his building where everyone in the neighborhood knew him and would often stop to chat and compliment his Syracuse hat or dapper socks. Before he was diagnosed with kidney disease, he loved theater, concerts, opera, and long walks exploring local streets (and pizza places.) He adored his grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with family, and telling tales of growing up in the Bronx. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Services will be held at The Church of St. Monica on Saturday March 1, 2025 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in memory of Joseph Grande be made to the Rogosin Institute at NY Presbyterian-Weill Cornell. www.rogosin.org 888-764-0746.
