Obituary of David Samuel Skigen

February 15, 2025

With deep sadness, we announce the death of David Samuel Skigen, 65, of Greenwich Village, New York City, on February 15, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at Greenwich Village Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, February 22. A viewing will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. All are welcome
David Skigen was born on October 12, 1959, to Harold Skigen and Gloria Taub in Stamford, Connecticut, where he spent his childhood. From a young age, David had a passion for comedy, theater, sports, and music. After working as a DJ in Hawaii, he returned to the mainland to perform in regional theater in Maine, with groups such as The Belfast Maskers, The Theater Project, and the Penobscot Theatre. One of his standout performances was in the Eric Bogosian one-man play, "Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll."
After moving to New York City, David became involved in several off-Broadway productions with organizations such as Wings Theater, the 13th Street Repertory Company, Artemis Wild Things, Dysfunctional Theatre Company, and Hudson Theater Company, among others. His keen musical ear also led him to pursue a career as a voice-over actor, where he notably voiced the villain Zile Zazik in "Speed Racer." David was a talented voice-over artist, and his booming voice was featured in many memorable commercials.
Like many actors, David supplemented his income through various jobs, including corporate headhunter, short-order cook, bailiff, and record store clerk. He had a sparkle in his eye that never faded, even during difficult times. David was a force of nature—full of energy, opinions, humor, and always ready to make a joke, often including himself in the punchline.
Throughout his life, David struggled with addiction but remained a strong believer in second chances through service, making amends, and performing random acts of kindness. He was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous and strived to live by its principles. Above all, he treasured his role as a father, which brought him immense joy.
David Skigen is survived by his son, Henry Skigen, his brother, Gary, and his wife, Marian. His sister Wendy predeceased him. Many dear friends, including his ex-wife Kirsten Weiner and her husband Lokke Heiss, also survive him.
The family sincerely thanks the Sapphire Rehabilitation Center in Flushing, NY, and Flushing Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, we prefer donations be made to The Entertainment Community Fund, continuing The Actors Fund services.

Dave was a great guy. I had a lot of fun going to Yankee games with him. He was a great actor and I was lucky enough to see him perform a few times. My favorite play was when he was the manager of a factory that made evil robots it was hysterical. He will be missed. May God bless David's family and friends. Best wishes, Christopher Masefield.
