Obituary of William Pak Kei Ng

January 3, 2025

William Pak Kei Ng passed away on January 3, 2025 at the age of 91. William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Agatha Kei Lin Ng and his three children Dr. Anthony Ng, Dr. Michelle Ng Gong and Debbie Ng as well as five grandchildren Zac, Tyler, Abby, Alex and Jacob along with son-in-laws Gavin, Jeff and daughter-in-law Caroline. He was surrounded by the love and support of his family right till his last breath. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Montefiore Hospital who’s team of medical staff worked tirelessly to treat William (Montefiore Einstein Donations, Honoree: William Ng).

Born in Hong Kong on November 28, 1933 he was the eldest of 9 siblings. William attended Northampton Technical College to study shoe making and manufacturing in 1955 to prepare him to help run the family shoe making factories back in Hong Kong. It was during this time he met Agatha, a fellow Chinese student who was in England studying midwifery. They wed in 1964 in Hong Kong. William always had an entrepreneurial spirit and along with Agatha made the decision to emigrate to the United States at the ripe age of 40 and start their lives anew with three young children in tow, to give their children a better future.

Though life was not always easy in a new country and new language, he had a hard scrabble approach to challenges which he faced with the tenaciousness of a bulldog. William was known by his family for his subtle humor, rational and logical mind and was the OG of the “Art of the deal” before it became mainstream. In his retirement he found joy in home renovation and was climbing up ladders as recently as last year. Quiet by nature and a man of few words his greatest source of joy and pride was his family, especially his three children: Dr. Anthony Ng, MD a psychiatrist, Medical Director of Community Services at Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor, Maine, Dr. Michelle Ng Gong, Chief of Critical Care Medicine and Chief of Pulmonary Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and future president of the American Thoracic Society, and Debbie Ng, Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer of Citigroup’s U.S. Broker Dealer. He thrived in their successes both professionally and personally. Though the stories are still to unfold with his grandchildren whom he adored and loved, he took pride in all of their interests and achievements and will, undoubtedly, continue to smile and nod his head proudly as his grandchildren’s successes unfold.
