Obituary of Deena Karabell
May 25, 2024
Our beloved Deena Karabell passed into spirit at 8:13 PM on May 25th, 2024.
Devoted mother, grandmother, wife and friend, her extraordinary intelligence, wit and creativity will be deeply missed.
A child prodigy at the piano, Deena debuted at the Philadelphia Orchestra but decided not to pursue music. Instead, she moved to New York at the age of 19 and was swept up in the exciting life of the city in the 1960s and 1970s with her son.
She married several times and eventually turned her entrepreneurial bent to a book on walking and health, co-authored with her former husband. She also used her insights from involvement with various groups in the 1970s and 1980s such as the Pathwork to help others throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s.
She continued to play piano and write her own music, and she published several books of poems and wisdom. Her music and writings are all available at dnaconnects.com. Dogged by health concerns much of her time, she managed to live a creative life where she helped people and shared her music and words.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday September 7 at the Ethical Culture Society, 64th Street and Central Park West in New York City.

When Deena and I first met she said I'm more than a friend, she told me I'm the sister she never had.
