Obituary of Joao Neves

João Neves, 77, of New York NY, formerly of Vilela de Lajes, Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Rosa (Cerqueira Castanheira) Neves with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

He was born on July 22, 1946, and was the cherished son of the late Antonio Dias Neves and Claudina Garcia Neves.

Upon arrival in this country in the late 1960s, he started in the Baking industry as a baker for over 30 years. João lived a happy life. He and his wife loved to travel to Portugal and would love to spend time with their family. He was an avid soccer fan of Vitoria Guimares and Real Madrid. In his free time, he would watch his favorite old western movies and TV sitcoms from the 1980s.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. In addition to his wife, Rosa, João is survived by his daughter, Maria Nassour of New Jersey; his son John Neves of New York, NY; his grandchildren, Michael and Isabella of New Jersey; and many loving cousins and friends.

Sadly, in addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Rosa Neves.

The interment will be in Portugal.
