John, the eldest of three children, was born January 15,1934 in Yonkers, New York. His early childhood was spent in Burlington, Vermont and his elementary to high school years in Westwood, New Jersey. He graduated from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York in 1956. The following year he went West and lived in San Francisco for almost a decade. He returned to New York
and soon took up residence at 26 Grove Street, his home for many years, albeit with a prolonged interim stay in Santa Fe, New Mexico. While there he adopted a cat who he named Homeless.

John loved to travel and explored the world as a tour escort for various travel companies. He visited a multitude of countries and sites and was always eager for the next adventure. He was a natural artist, won awards for his paintings starting in high school. He sold his paintings while in Santa Fe and was involved with trade shows in Chicago and San Francisco. He delighted in making and/or selecting cards for his friends. He exhibited a creative streak in both his designs and his words.

John had a love of nature and gardens, maintaining his “own” little plot in front of his Grove Street residence. He was an amiable soul and his love for theatre, the arts, travel and fine food brought him into contact with many people who found him to be a charming, attractive, likeable personality.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends and Village neighbors and his sister Yvonne and brother Harry.
His remains lie in repose at Saint Luke of the Fields Columbarium on Hudson Street, New York in the city that he walked and loved.
