November 11, 2023
William Francis Blaber, Jr., 53, passed away on November 11, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones in New York City.
Bill was a vibrant soul whose energy inspired all around him. His greatest passion was music. As a young boy he performed at the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Opera as a member of the children’s opera choruses, as well as a soloist in productions such as the Magic Flute and Tannhäuser. In later years Bill sang with organizations including the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus, and the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus. Bill was an avid traveler, frequently visiting distant parts to see the latest musical or any opera headlined Sondra Radvanovsky. In addition to opera and musical theatre, it would be remiss not to mention his biggest love... Madonna.
Another meaningful part of Bill’s life was helping people through addiction recovery. His most recent position was at Mountainside Treatment Center, where he was co-founder of the Recovery Coaching Program. His talent and compassion have earned him the respect of his colleagues and clients. Bill’s dedication to helping individuals struggling with substances will leave a lasting impact on countless lives.
Bill grew up in Floral Park, New York. He attended Chaminade High School and Fairfield University. He is survived by his loving parents, William and Yvonne Blaber, his sister and brother-in-law, Ann-Marie and Barry Walsh, his brother and sister-in-law, John-Paul and Jennifer Blaber, and his beloved nieces and nephew, Shannon Walsh, Madeleine Blaber and Andrew Blaber. In addition he leaves behind an amazing group of friends and colleagues who brought inordinate joy and meaning to his life.
